G3 – Basic Course

Course title: G3 – From Personal to Professional Colleague: Understanding Your Role as a Union Representative

Introduction:

This course is designed to help you understand what the role of a shop steward or health and safety representative involves in a workplace. We use a simple and practical approach that allows you to view your workplace as a whole, enabling you to handle challenges more effectively and strengthen your role as a union representative.

Course Objectives:

Improve understanding of the tasks and responsibilities of the shop steward/health and safety representative role, and strengthen efforts toward organising colleagues.

Develop skills for effective communication with management and colleagues.

Create visibility around union work through effective use of the Year Plan.

Strengthen the ability to handle challenges and changes in the workplace.

Create a space for sharing experiences and mutual learning across sectors.

Content and Method:

The course is facilitated by experienced instructors and combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and group work. The focus will be on the following themes:

Organisational Understanding: Review of company structure and the role of the shop steward/health and safety representative in relation to management, colleagues and the union, with the Year Plan as a connecting tool.

The Year Plan: The Year Plan will be used as an ongoing framework for continued organisational work at the workplace.

Communication and Relations: Handling dialogues and relationships in the workplace with a focus on constructive communication, change management, and strengthening support for organising.

Workplace Analysis: Methods for analysing and understanding workplace dynamics and identifying challenges and opportunities.

Action Processes: Creation of action plans based on insights from the course for implementation in the workplace, using the Year Plan as a shared steering tool.

Target Group:

The course is primarily aimed at shop stewards (TR) and health and safety representatives (AMR) who have completed Basic Course 1 and 2.
